Living Beyond Ourselves: Our Story

Did I say I would not be back for two weeks, yes I will not be back for two weeks and do not be fooled that I am back. I just thought I needed to share this with more people than I have shared it with. There is still considerable pressure on me that putting my thoughts together for FB still takes me lots of time. But, who said a guy need not pamper himself, sit before his pc and jot down something without a fresh cup of tea (mind, not coffee) in his hands (Like I have evn been at that!

At the start of this week, I thought I needed to share a simple thing with many of my friends, the idea of the impact we have on many people. When we are born, there is a new slate put before humanity, a slate that our whole life fills and we have a complete story at the time of our death. In drama theory, it could be tragic when we die. In God's heavenly theory, comedy comes to life if we die in Him and have been bound by His power and life.

What we do fills a slate and God can never be wrong, at the time when the play should end, what we call the Denouement in drama theory, it definitely ends. Our slate has reached its capacity and it starts getting read out to people. They read the story of our lives, read about the decisions we have made, read about the paths we have taken, mistakes made and rights we have made. In all, our lives and life stories are there to impact people for either the right or wrong. This is the most definite reason for our being. We were made to affect humanity. Our relationship with people makes it worthwhile for us to live. Without them, we cease to have any reason to exist.

When we say things or do things or choose to follow certain paths, we are setting in motion a pattern of events that will decide how far we go in our enterprise of touching people. Life can only be worthwhile if we take a strong stand and write ourselves a good story. We make people follow us wherever we have been, inspire them to do either that which is right or wrong. Humans are interesting beings, we sometimes get the capacity to follow to wherever we have been led. It is amazing how many people we can lead to hell, and how many we can lead to heaven.

Jesus is a perfect example of a life story that has affected humanity. His is a story of love, hope, victory, freedom and life. it is a story that has taught us to love others, to experience the truth about fellowship with Him, to forgive and forget, to be models for others to follow the right paths and make the right decisions. Because of Him, we are brought to complete service before God and a complete relationship with fellow men. His is a story that has lived beyond His time, and a story still relevant for our times. If He had made the mistake to go against His Father, we would be following something else.

And that is what happens to us as people. What kind of life are we living? What kind of relationships are we building? Are we setting ourselves apart for ministry in God's kingdom so at the end we can be sure that He has worked in us for the better? Can we put our hand to something and know it has helped people? In all, when we read the plot of our lives, do we see a definite pattern of change, honesty, life, hope and freedom in the lives of those we have touched? Are we willing to say, 'Lord, your work id done, here I come, take me home?' If this is you, then you have set yourself on a path of real experience and relationship with God.

One thing we must know is that we all make mistakes. Paul would have been hated most by Christ yet he alone came up to say 'I have run the race, I have reached the mark'. Do we have the ability to do exactly that and know God has brought us from afar, let us not fail Him again?

That is a choice for each one of us. I have chosen to be a story of inspiration, hope, determination, love, honesty, faithfulness and most of all a Christian moving after God's own heart. I may fail at some points, but I know that in the end, I should be approved by God. It is not easy to live Christianity if we keep making mistakes and running away from God. It all starts with the decision to realise we need Him, that alone is when we can be able to let Him work through us, change us for the better and most of all, write agreat story for us on the slates. In all, it is letting go of the slate and letting God fill it with the life He has let us lead.

God bless you all
